Revealing the Hidden Voices in Rowing
Daniela Nacházelová learned to row at age 10 on the Vltava River in Prague, Czech Republic. She received a rowing scholarship to Washington State University and collected medals at World Cups and world championships, and spent 15 years chasing an Olympic dream. She fell in love with rowing, but also ended up hating it.
WOMENS VOICES IN ROWING
In 2020, Daniela wrote and published Women’s Voices in Rowing, a book featuring 14 unique women from around the globe. Each woman has claimed victories and medals, and each has their own forceful, empowering stories to tell.
We interviewed Daniela for Steady State Podcast in January 2021, along with two of the women from her book – Michelle Carpenter, CEO of Rowing Ireland, and Judy Geer, 2x Olympian and part of the owner-operator family at Concept2 and Craftsbury Outdoor Center.
Here at Steady State Network our mission is to reframe the popular, yet limited narrative about rowing culture. So when we met Daniela, we were intrigued by an author and her book, both of which sought to celebrate the stories and experiences of women in the rowing community.
HIDDEN VOICES IN ROWING
Two years later, Daniela is back with a second book, Hidden Voices in Rowing, which she describes as a “distinctive selection of voices that you probably never heard of, yet they're truly inspirational. I am taking you on a journey that will allow you to look deeper into rowing. You'll learn about the values and best practices from incredibly inspirational people that I met along my journey; when I was searching for the perfect stroke.” This compilation of interviews with 12 “unseen people” in rowing who have helped shape the sport of rowing “offers a unique look into the sport that is deeply rooted in tradition yet is confronted by the innovations of a few exceptional individuals who were willing to share their thoughts.”
Hidden Voices in Rowing is the second book in a planned four-part series, and will be available to order at voicesinrowing.com after September 23.
